✨Our Thanksgiving Traditions ✨

family traditions

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! I really can’t believe that its the end of November! Anyway with Thanksgiving tomorrow, I wanted to share my families Thanksgiving Traditions! I love hearing about other people’s traditions because I learn about different cultures + ways of doing things. Plus I find some that I love + want to adapt as my own.

To be honest I’m sure that our traditions aren’t that ground breaking ha! But ya never know. Otay so in the morning we wake up leisurely. We stay in our pjs for a good part of the day if I’m honest until it’s time to get ready to go to the family’s.

Until it’s time to go to our family’s house, we are cozy cozy cozy on the couch, watching movies + eating some snacks. It’s glorious, it really is. We try not to eat too much because we will be feasting on a lot of delicious food later.

For 65+ years now, we have celebrated Thanksgiving with my cousins on my dad’s maternal side. When we are all together we always bring up the fact that we are another year into our tradition of being together. We also love going through all photos of our grandparents + parents when they first started the tradition in the 50’s!

The best part about us celebrating Thanksgiving together is that no matter how much time goes by, the second we are all together its like we were together the day before. It’s like there was no time in between the last time we saw each other.

Another tradition we have is that we have A LOT of Armenian food as appetizers + part of the main meal. That is my favorite part of all the food we have.

Football is on in the background, but only a few are watching it. Most go in to see a couple plays, get more food + talk to someone ha! Armenians are known for never shutting up + always eating. Which if you think about it, how are we always talking when we have always have food in our mouths ha!

You can usually find the younger generation sitting together chatting about whats new in our lives + catching up. And I’m going to age myself here + they are usually teaching me all sorts of things ha!

After we eat all the appetizers its dinner time + we have a feast! Its kinda funny but we usually sit in the same way, older generation at one end, younger generation at the other or at the “kids table”. All you hear is loud conversation + lots of laughter because thats what we are about ha! We usually do go around the table + say what we are grateful for + the fact that we are celebrating together for another year always comes up.

After our feast of dinner, we actually have desert if you can believe that ha! By then its not so loud because we are all entering our food comas ha! We always leave with a bunch of left overs to continue the feast the next day or later that night ha!

As we leave we always embrace + tell each other how great it was to be with each other + that we must get together again soon! I’ll admit, sometimes we’re good at it, others not so much. #Life
